Tuesday night’s game at Swayze Field was far from orthodox, but the Ole Miss Rebels were able to return to the win column.
Tuesday night at Swayze Field was a high-scoring affair as the Ole Miss Rebels took down the Austin Peay Governors 13-9 to return to the win column ahead of another home conference series this weekend.
Austin Peay struck for four runs in the top of the first, chasing starting pitcher Kyler Carmack after just one inning of work. Six different Rebels took the hill after Carmack, including Mitch Murrell who was credited with the win after two innings on the mound.
Offensively, Ole Miss was able to respond with a four-spot of its own in the bottom of the first, and both teams pushed across a single run in the second inning before the Rebels struck for four runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 9-5 lead. One run apiece in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings gave Ole Miss its mark of 13 runs, and Austin Peay would push across four more runs of its own in the ninth to reach the final score.
Ole Miss right fielder Treyson Hughes led the way in RBIs with three, and he was joined in the multi-RBI category by third baseman Andrew Fischer with two. In total, seven members of the Ole Miss lineup were responsible for at least one RBI at the plate.
The Rebels will welcome the Kentucky Wildcats to Swayze Field this weekend with a series that begins on Friday night. The series opener is set for a 6:30 p.m. CT start, and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
