UCF Knights Baseball head coach Greg Lovelady was fired Saturday afternoon, according to a release from the program

The move, first reported by UCFSports.com’s Brandon Helwig, comes one day after the Knights fell to East Carolina in an American Athletic Conference Tournament elimination game in Clearwater, 7-6 in 13 innings. It was the Knights’ final game as a member of The American, with their expected transition to the Big 12 coming on July 1.

While Lovelady has not had a sub-30-win season during his time at UCF (discounting the COVID-shortened 2020 season), he has not led UCF to the NCAA Tournament since his initial 2017 campaign. He finishes his seven-season tenure 225-149 overall.

We appreciate all of Greg’s hard work, effort and commitment over his seven seasons,” Terry Mohajir, UCF vice president and director of athletics, said in a press release. “There’s no doubt he’s a high-character individual. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Lovelady was hired back in July 2016, after three seasons as the head coach of Wright State in which he took the Raiders to two NCAA Tournaments
