Marcus Domask has announce his departure from the earlier today due to…

After deciding to “lawyer up” and file a waiver for a sixth year of eligibility, Marcus Domask has exhausted all of his eligibility at the college level, he announced via an Instagram post thanking Illini Nation.

“This past year was one of my most memorable years of my life and I want to thank all of you for making it so special. Thank you for being so welcoming to my family and I, making us feel at home since day one,” Domask shared in his post.

In his lone year at Illinois as a graduate transfer, Domask averaged 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

The announcement likely confirms that Domask had his medical hardship waiver denied by the NCAA.

In the 2020-21 season, his sophomore season at Southern Illinois, Domask would start the first ten games of the Salukis’ season. The former Wisconsin Mr. Basketball would suffer a left foot injury that would sideline him for the rest of the season.

Those familiar with the situation said that there was a possibility Domask could obtain a waiver, but that it was a weak case.

Southern Illinois’ 2020-21 season ended after just 26 games, with an additional two being canceled due to COVID-19 and other scheduling complications.

“The 10 games he played in the 2020-21 season at Southern Illinois accounted for nearly 40 percent of the Salukis’ total. Past the 30 percent barrier the NCAA sets,” Scott Richey of the News-Gazette shared in his April 3 article.
