New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is already drawing comparisons to another former LSU wideout.
Giants teammate Darius Slayton compared Nabers to Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl receiver Ja’Marr Chase during a Tuesday appearance on the All Facts No Brakes podcast (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk).
“He’s looked good,” Slayton said (11:40 mark). “Honestly in my opinion he reminds me of Ja’Marr Chase, it’s like a clone. Malik’s about six-foot, they’re about the same size. Dimensionally they’re about the same, his body movements, it’s actually kind of weird watching him move around. He’s really talented, he’s got good hands.”
Nabers is coming off a phenomenal junior campaign at LSU, leading to the Giants selecting him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He hauled in 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns with the Tigers, finishing as a finalist for the 2023 Biletnikoff Award.
His impressive college production could translate to immediate success, as the 20-year-old has reportedly been impressive throughout the offseason. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that Nabers “showed out” during minicamp and has “caught the attention of his coaches and teammates.”
Chase had a tremendous rookie campaign in 2021, racking up 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season before helping the Bengals make a Super Bowl appearance.
If Nabers is already earning comparisons to Chase before he’s played a regular-season game, fantasy football managers should monitor him as a potential breakout option ahead of his first season in the NFL.
