During episode 2 of “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants,” head coach Brian Daboll insisted he could run a sub-7.0 in the 40-yard dash while scouting at the NFL Combine.

Giants executives, including general manager Joe Schoen, scoffed at the notion, much to the dismay of Daboll.

I guarantee you I could run a 7.0 40,” Daboll told the front office members. “If you put a plate full of wings on the other end, I’m doing that.”

The immediate response was a unified “no way,” followed by a little ribbing courtesy of Tim McDonnell, the team’s director of player personnel.

“Dude, I saw you run across the street two nights ago,” he said, drawing laughs from the group.

At the time, Daboll was a bit heavier than he is now. He went through a full offseason transformation and lost what appears to be a significant amount of weight. And following that drop in pounds, second-year cornerback Deonte Banks believes Daboll would shock the masses and run a sub-7.0 40-yard dash.

think he can,” “That’s my dog, I think he can do it!”

In 2005, NFL analyst Rich Eisen posted a 6.77 in the 40. Since then, he’s run every single year with his best time coming in 2016 when he clocked in at 5.94.
