Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is undoubtedly going to hate what former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy said about the Rebels’ football program this week.
And it’s not because McElroy was negative — quite the opposite, actually.
McElroy, who is a college football analyst for ESPN, said this week that he thinks Ole Miss could potentially “win the whole dang thing” in 2024.
“We need to wake up and get on board with the possibility that Ole Miss could win the whole dang thing,” said McElroy on Always College Football.
They’re going to probably get to the College Football Playoff,” added McElroy. “And I think when they get there, they can win some games in route to a possible national championship opportunity.” think we all know exactly how Kiffin is going to react to that clip when he sees it (and there’s no doubt he’ll see it).
He’s going to call it rat poison, which is what former Alabama head coach Nick Saban famously called positive press from the media in 2017 after a close game against Texas A&M.
Kiffin has adopted the phrase as his own in recent years and I have little doubt that he’ll drop the Saban-ism in response to McElroy’s comments about Ole Miss in 2024 (though to be fair, GMac is right — Ole Miss could definitely win it all).
