In his eighth season at the helm of Red Raider athletics, Kirby Hocutt has reached an agreement on a contract revision with Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. Hocutt, commenting on the two-year extension and compensation upgrade, said “I am sincerely appreciative of the continued trust and support from President Schovanec, Chancellor Mitchell and the Board of Regents. Texas Tech University and Lubbock have become home for my family and there is not a greater place. I look forward to continuing our work to elevate Texas Tech Athletics to the top echelon of college athletics.”
The revised contract includes a $1.5 million increase in compensation annually, and a time extension to August 31, 2027. That makes his contract worth about $13.3 million. Kirby Hocutt has created marquee success at Texas Tech with significant hires such as Chris Beard and Tim Tadlock. The 2017-2018 athletic season has been one of the best in school history across a large breadth of sports such as men and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and the track teams. Texas Tech has claimed 13 Big 12 titles under the direction of Hocutt, and Schovanec believes that success should be maintained. “As a result of Kirby’s leadership and vision, our athletic programs have enjoyed unprecedented success,” Schovanec said, “he has assembled an administrative staff and a group of coaches who reflect his priorities to develop our student-athletes, academically and athletically, while competing at the highest level. His success in fundraising has resulted in impressive improvements in facilities and resources. He is one of the most respected athletic directors in the nation, and we are fortunate that he will continue to lead our programs at Texas Tech.”
