Looking to carry over their success from last year, three Red Raider soccer stars have been selected to the United Soccer Coaches Association’s Players to Watch list for this season: defender Macy Blackburn, midfielder Sam Courtwright and forward Ashleigh Williams.
Courtwright has been turning plenty of heads in the college soccer world. She was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023 and was selected as a preseason third-team All-American by TopDrawer Soccer. On top of that she was picked for the USYNT U-20 World Cup roster.
In her freshman year, Courtwright racked up five goals and eight assists and started in all 23 matches for Texas Tech in 2023.
Williams was a scoring machine her junior season, as she scored 14 goals, which is the fourth-most in a single season in program history. Nine of her goals came in the season’s first five matches, which included a hat trick against Ball State.Blackburn was named to the Defender’s Players to Watch List and prior to her season-ending injury in early October of last year, she was leading the country in assists per game, with 11 assists total in 15 matches.
