Breaking News; Former Tennessee Top Star Josh Dobbs Confirms He Wants To Return…

Former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier made quite the comment about former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs on Monday.

Dobbs, who is entering his eighth season in the NFL, signed with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason.

And Spurrier, who played for the 49ers from 1967-1975, was impressed by what he saw from Dobbs on Sunday evening in San Francisco’s preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

The Head Ball Coach was so impressed, in fact, that he suggested that Dobbs looked better than 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy.

“I’ll tell you, the player that looked really good yesterday, Josh Dobbs, former Tennessee quarterback,” said Spurrier during an appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “Golly did he play well.”

“Purdy played one possession, didn’t do anything, and they put Josh Dobbs in there and I mean, his passes were accurate, and he scrambled, made some plays,” continued Spurrier. “And man, it wouldn’t surprise me — everybody said he’s playing for the backup job. Shoot, he played better than the starter last night. And so, Josh Dobbs, played at Tennessee. He’s been around.”Purdy, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl last season, is obviously in no danger of losing the starting job to Dobbs. But it does seem pretty clear that Dobbs should be the top backup option for San Francisco. He’s proven several times that he can be a dynamic option for an NFL franchise — especially when he has to unexpectedly take over as the starter. If something happens to Purdy, Dobbs will be a capable replacement. But there won’t be any shakeups at the top of the 49ers’ depth chart (at the quarterback position) because of a couple of preseason games.
