Xavi Simons was a big transfer target for Bayern Munich after the 22-year-old Dutchman lit up the Bundesliga while on loan at RB Leipzig, which attracted the interest of the Bavarians. According to a report from Sport Bild journos Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia, Simons will be the next João Palhinha in the sense that the club will come back for him; Max Eberl will go for him once more.
If you remember, Simons was an alternative to Désiré Doué who was a Stade Rennais player at the time, but the Rekordmeister got a bit carried away by thinking it could get both players. In the end, Paris Saint-Germain loaned Simons back to Leipzig and got Doué for themselves, leaving Bayern in the dust.
Coincidentally, Kingsley Coman—who nearly left Bayern in the dying hours of the transfer window to Saudi Arabia—was PSG’s contingency plan if Doué went anywhere else. Coman was also a topic at FC Barcelona, who would’ve gotten Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, yet another Bayern target.
