The Cats are on the recruiting trail and looking well into the future.
Mark Pope knows a thing or two about succeeding as a big man at the collegiate level. Having been a player with the Kentucky Wildcats himself, Pope is held in high esteem among Big Blue Nation, and he’s been eyeing one of the best centers in the Class of 2027.
Per Jacob Polacheck of Kentucky Sports Radio, the Cats have offered 7-foot center Obinna Ekezie Jr. While official stars aren’t quite out for the class of 2027, Ekezie Jr. is being dubbed a top-10 center in the class.
Ekezie Jr. is from Napa, California, and he currently plays for Prolific Prep. He has secured offers from numerous programs, including California, Houston, and Stanford.
ESPN has their top-25 board already posted, and Ekezie is coming in at No. 19, the fourth-ranked center in the class. ESPN has him as a 4-star recruit, although 247 Sports doesn’t have a star assigned to him yet.
The Cats would undoubtedly love to continue their trend of having some of college hoops best centers. From DeMarcus Cousins to Anthony Davis, the Cats have a lengthy history of recruiting and developing star centers.
