The Baltimore Ravens are one of several teams that could get involved in the bidding for a veteran cornerback this season.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones could end up on the trading block if the Patriots’ season spirals out of control.
While Graziano listed the Atlanta Falcons as a possible landing spot for Jones, he added that the Ravens are one of several teams that would “love to add Jones.”
Graziano noted that trade rumors at this point in the season are speculative.
The Ravens entered this season with almost too much depth in their secondary.
However, through two games, their passing defense has struggled, falling off mightily from last year, when they were one of the best units in the NFL.
Jones could add depth and experience to the Ravens. He’s a two-time Super Bowl champion, who in nine seasons with the Patriots has logged 11 interceptions, including one pick-six, nine forced fumbles, and 2.5 sacks. He started 14 games last season and earned a solid 76.5 grade from Pro Football Focus.
Jones is in the final year of his contract, with a $12.5 million cap hit this season.
It’s unclear what it might cost to land Jones in a trade. Ultimately, given the Ravens’ struggles on the offensive line, along with the need for another receiver or pass-rusher, if the Ravens were going to use an asset to land another player, it seems unlikely that they’d target another cornerback.
