Guard TJ Caldwell no longer with Ole Miss basketball program, coach Chris Beard confirms.
No. 24 Ole Miss men’s basketball beat Long Island University 90-60 on Monday night in its season opener. It was accompanied by an off-the-court development.
Junior guard TJ Caldwell, who had played in 63 games for Ole Miss the past two seasons, put out a message on X, formerly Twitter, announcing he planned to redshirt this season. In addition, Caldwell is no longer part of the Ole Miss team, coach Chris Beard confirmed in his news conference after the game.
“I’d like to thank coach Beard and the whole Ole Miss coaching staff and organization for everything they have done and their support of my decision,” Caldwell’s message read in part.
“I want to be really clear, I’m a big TJ Caldwell fan,” Beard said. “We experienced a lot in our time together.”
Caldwell appeared in all 32 games for Ole Miss last season, averaging 18.3 minutes and 5.5 points. He scored a career-high 18 points against Mississippi State on Dec. 30.
“We really appreciate everything (Caldwell) did with our program, both on the court and off,” Beard said. “He’s a good person and a good player. This is part of college basketball, so we wish him the best.”
