As Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Bru McCoy prepares to take the field at Neyland Stadium one final time on Senior Day, his emotions are a mix of pride, gratitude, and nostalgia. “Rocky Top has truly become home for me,” McCoy said recently, reflecting on his time with the Volunteers. “It’s not just the football, it’s the people, the support, and the lessons I’ve learned here that have changed my life.”
Before finding stability at Tennessee, McCoy’s football career was marked by uncertainty. A five-star recruit out of Mater Dei High School in California, he was one of the most sought-after prospects in the country. Initially committing to USC, McCoy transferred to Texas in early 2019 but returned to USC shortly thereafter. The back-and-forth left him searching for a place where he could fully settle and thrive both on and off the field.
By the time McCoy arrived in Knoxville ahead of the 2022 season, he was eager to start fresh. Joining Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel, McCoy embraced the Vols’ high-powered offense, making an immediate impact. In his debut season, he racked up over 600 receiving yards and four touchdowns, proving to be a reliable target and a dynamic playmaker.
“Tennessee gave me an opportunity to show what I can do,” McCoy said. “They believed in me when not everyone did, and that meant the world to me.”

“Walking into Neyland Stadium is something I’ll never forget,” he said. “The energy, the fans singing ‘Rocky Top,’ it’s unreal. But what stands out the most is how much love I’ve felt from the people here. They’ve made me feel like family.”
Off the field, McCoy has grown as a person, crediting the mentorship of Tennessee’s coaching staff and the support of his teammates for helping him navigate challenges. “Coach Heupel and everyone here have been instrumental in shaping who I am today,” McCoy shared. “They push you to be your best, not just as a player but as a man.”
