Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young has been reinstated to the team after the resolution of his legal issues. Young was suspended indefinitely following his arrest on October 8, 2024, on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child. The suspension was in place pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
In late January 2025, Young reached a plea agreement with the Athens-Clarke County Solicitor’s Office. He pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge, resulting in 12 months of probation, a $500 fine, and a requirement to complete a 24-week family violence intervention program. As part of the agreement, the misdemeanor charge of assault on an unborn child was dismissed.
Following the plea deal, Young was allowed to resume team activities, including attending meetings and participating in practices. However, he remained sidelined during games until the legal matters were fully addressed. With the conclusion of his case, Young is now eligible to return to game action for the Bulldogs.
Young’s reinstatement comes at a crucial time for Georgia, as they prepare for the upcoming season. His return adds depth and experience to the Bulldogs’ receiving corps, which will be beneficial as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Head coach Kirby Smart has expressed support for Young throughout the process, emphasizing the importance of allowing the legal system to run its course. Smart stated, “We want to support Colbie where we can. We continue to provide him with access to our facilities and the support resources we have.”
Young transferred to Georgia from the University of Miami prior to the 2024 season. In his first five games with the Bulldogs, he recorded 11 receptions for 249 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his potential as a key contributor to the team’s offense.
The resolution of Young’s legal issues and his subsequent return to the team have been met with optimism from both the coaching staff and fans. His presence on the field is expected to bolster Georgia’s passing attack, providing quarterback Carson Beck with a reliable target.
As Young reintegrates into the team, he will need to focus on meeting the conditions of his probation and completing the required intervention program. Successfully fulfilling these obligations will be crucial for his continued participation in team activities
