He was a rising defensive lineman with a bright future, beloved by teammates and coaches alike. Today, Marc, pictured in June 2001 with his younger son Chase in their hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, is looking to immortalize Cole’s journey through film, ensuring that his legacy endures for future generations.
A Life Cut Short, But Not Forgotten
Cole Pittman was known for his relentless work ethic and larger-than-life personality. At 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, he was a force on the field, but it was his infectious spirit and leadership that truly set him apart.
Recruited by Texas out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Cole quickly made a name for himself in Mack Brown’s program. Coaches saw him as a future starter and key contributor to the Longhorns’ defense. Tragically, his life was cut short on February 26, 2001, when he lost control of his SUV on Interstate 35 near the town of Driftwood, Texas.
His death sent shockwaves through the Texas football community. The Longhorns honored him with a moment of silencebefore every game that season, and his No. 44 jersey became a symbol of inspiration for the team.
