Before committing to Illinois, Jakučionis honed his skills with FC Barcelona’s youth and reserve teams. He made his professional debut in April 2023 during a Liga ACB game against Coviran Granada, becoming the third youngest player to represent FC Barcelona in the league. His performances in European tournaments, including being named to the 2023–24 U-18 Euroleague All-Tournament Team, showcased his potential and caught the attention of international scouts.

In May 2024, Jakučionis committed to the University of Illinois, bringing with him a reputation as one of the top international prospects. His decision was influenced by the opportunity to develop under Coach Brad Underwood and compete in the competitive environment of the Big Ten Conference.

Upon joining the Illini, Jakučionis quickly established himself as a key player. In his debut game in November 2024, he scored 11 points, contributing to a victory against Eastern Illinois. His performance earned him the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors twice early in the season.

Throughout the season, Jakučionis demonstrated versatility and leadership on the court. He averaged 9 points and 7.7 assists per game, showcasing his excellent passing abilities and court vision. His unselfish play and maturity were instrumental in guiding the team to a strong start.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Jakučionis was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List in January 2025. This accolade highlighted his status as one of the nation’s top players and underscored his importance to the Illini’s success.

Despite facing challenges, including a left forearm injury that sidelined him for games against Penn State and USC, Jakučionis remained a steadfast presence for the team. His resilience and determination to contribute, even in the face of adversity, exemplified his commitment to the Illini.

Off the court, Jakučionis has expressed a deep loyalty to the Illinois program. In interviews, he has emphasized his dedication to the team’s success and his desire to leave a lasting legacy at the university. His commitment extends beyond his playing years, as he has expressed intentions to remain involved with the program in various capacities.

Coach Underwood has praised Jakučionis for his work ethic and team-first mentality. He noted that Jakučionis’s international experience and mature approach have been invaluable assets to the team’s dynamics and performance.

As the season progresses, Jakučionis continues to be a pivotal figure for the Illini. His contributions on both ends of the court, combined with his leadership qualities, have solidified his role as a cornerstone of the team’s present and future aspirations.

Looking ahead, Jakučionis’s unwavering commitment to the Illinois basketball program serves as an inspiration to his teammates and fans alike. His journey reflects a profound dedication to the sport and a promise to uphold the values and traditions of the Fighting Illini for years to come.
