In a significant development within collegiate athletics, Jeremiah Donati, the Athletic Director at Texas Christian University (TCU), has been appointed as the new Athletic Director at the University of South Carolina. This transition marks a pivotal moment for both institutions, as Donati brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the Gamecocks.

Jeremiah Donati’s tenure at TCU began in 2011, culminating in his appointment as Athletic Director in December 2017. During his leadership, TCU’s athletic programs experienced remarkable achievements. Notably, the Horned Frogs’ football team reached the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2022, underscoring the program’s ascent under his guidance. Additionally, TCU secured eight team national championships and 11 Big 12 Conference titles during his tenure, reflecting a broad spectrum of athletic excellence.

Donati’s strategic vision extended beyond team performance. He spearheaded significant fundraising initiatives, resulting in over $500 million in donor-supported facility upgrades. These enhancements included the $50 million Athletics Human Performance Center Renovation and the $113 million Legends Club & Suites, projects that have elevated TCU’s athletic infrastructure to new heights.

The University of South Carolina’s decision to appoint Donati comes as a successor to Ray Tanner, who announced in September his intention to step down after a distinguished tenure. Tanner, who had been with the university since 2013, will transition to a role as Athletics Director Emeritus and Senior Advisor to the university president. His leadership saw significant milestones, including multiple national championships in baseball.

Donati’s appointment was formalized during a Board of Trustees meeting, followed by an official announcement from the university. University President Michael Amiridis emphasized the importance of experienced leadership in the athletic department, expressing confidence that Donati’s extensive background aligns with the university’s aspirations for its sports programs.

The South Carolina athletic program is currently experiencing a period of success across various sports. The women’s basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Dawn Staley, secured its third national title since 2017. The men’s basketball team made an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, marking its first in seven years. Additionally, the football team concluded a strong season with a 9-3 record, highlighted by a victory over rival Clemson.

Donati’s previous experience includes roles at Leigh Steinberg Sports and Entertainment as General Counsel and Director of Player Representation. He also held fundraising positions at institutions such as Arizona, Washington State, and Cal Poly, further diversifying his expertise in collegiate athletics administration.

As he transitions to his new role at South Carolina, Donati is expected to leverage his extensive experience to build upon the existing successes of the Gamecocks’ athletic programs. His proven ability to enhance athletic performance, coupled with his fundraising acumen, positions him well to lead South Carolina into a new era of athletic achievement.

The move also signifies a new chapter for TCU, which will now embark on a search for Donati’s successor. The university will aim to find a leader capable of sustaining and advancing the momentum established during Donati’s tenure.

In summary, Jeremiah Donati’s departure from TCU to assume the role of Athletic Director at the University of South Carolina represents a significant shift in the landscape of collegiate athletics administration. Both institutions stand at the threshold of new opportunities and challenges as they navigate this transition.
