In a significant boost to their 2025 recruiting class, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have secured a commitment from four-star dual-threat quarterback Lloyd “Chubby” Jones III from Hitchcock High School in Texas. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 210 pounds, Jones is ranked as the nation’s No. 248 overall prospect and the No. 17 quarterback in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Jones announced his commitment on November 4, 2023, becoming the third prospect to pledge to Texas Tech’s 2025 class, joining Stephenville wide receiver Tristian Gentry and Wichita Falls Hirschi athlete Isaiah Anderson.
Reflecting on his decision, Jones expressed his enthusiasm:
“I am excited to go play for this coaching staff; they make me feel at home and have always believed in me. I am excited to be a Red Raider.”
Jones’s commitment is a testament to Texas Tech’s strong in-state recruiting efforts. The Red Raiders’ 2024 class, for instance, comprises 21 commits, all hailing from Texas, underscoring the program’s emphasis on cultivating local talent.

He was named the Galveston County Player of the Year in football, is a back-to-back state champion in basketball, and an area champion in the 4×100 meter relay. Additionally, he has a unique hobby of showing pigs at the Galveston County Fair, a tradition he shares with his family.
