Jon Richt, son of former University of Georgia and University of Miami head coach Mark Richt, has been promoted to head coach at Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Georgia. This appointment marks a significant milestone in Jon’s coaching career, bringing him back to the institution where he first showcased his talents as a high school quarterback.

Early Life and Playing Career

Born on March 11, 1990, Jon Richt began his football journey at Prince Avenue Christian School. As the school’s inaugural varsity quarterback in 2005, he set the foundation for what would become a storied football program. Following high school, Jon accepted a scholarship to Clemson University, where he redshirted his freshman year. Seeking more playing time, he transferred to Mars Hill College (now Mars Hill University). At Mars Hill, Jon started every game in his senior year, setting program records in completions, attempts, yards, and touchdown passes.

Coaching Journey

Jon’s coaching career began in 2014 when he joined his father’s staff at the University of Georgia as a quality control assistant. During that season, the Bulldogs achieved a 10-3 record, with the offense setting school records by scoring 537 points and averaging 41.3 points per game.

In 2015, Jon transitioned to the NFL, serving as an offensive assistant for the Buffalo Bills under head coach Rex Ryan. The following year, he reunited with his father at the University of Miami, taking on the role of quarterbacks coach. Over three seasons, Jon played a pivotal role in developing quarterbacks and enhancing the team’s offensive strategies.

Return to Prince Avenue Christian School

After his tenure at Miami, Jon returned to Georgia, focusing on youth coaching and quarterback development. In 2021, he rejoined Prince Avenue Christian School as the offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. Under his guidance, the school’s offense flourished, with quarterback Aaron Philo leading the state in passing yards during the 2022 season.

Jon’s coaching philosophy emphasizes developing quarterbacks and crafting dynamic offensive strategies. His efforts have contributed to Prince Avenue Christian’s reputation as a “quarterback factory,” producing talents like Brock Vandagriff and Aaron Philo, who have set state records and advanced to collegiate football careers.

Community and Personal Life

Beyond the football field, Jon has invested in the local community. In 2020, he partnered with former Georgia running back Fred Munzenmaier to open a D1 Training facility in Watkinsville, aiming to provide specialized training for athletes of all ages.

The Richt family’s deep ties to the Athens area have been evident since Mark Richt’s tenure at the University of Georgia. Their commitment to the community and the sport has left a lasting impact, with Jon continuing the legacy through his coaching and mentorship.

Looking Ahead

As Jon Richt steps into the role of head coach at Prince Avenue Christian School, he brings a wealth of experience from collegiate and professional football. His journey, marked by significant achievements and a deep connection to the school, positions him to lead the Wolverines to continued success.

The promotion of Jon Richt to head coach is not just a personal milestone but also a testament to the enduring legacy of the Richt family in Georgia’s football community. With Jon at the helm, Prince Avenue Christian School’s football program is poised for a promising future.
