In a significant boost to their 2027 recruiting class, the Florida State Seminoles have secured a commitment from four-star safety Mekhi Williams. The 6-foot-2, 167-pound standout from Lennard High School in Ruskin, Florida, announced his decision following an unofficial visit to Tallahassee during FSU’s Legacy Weekend. Williams chose the Seminoles over offers from Colorado, FAU, FIU, and Wake Forest. ​
A Rising Star in Florida High School Football
Williams has quickly made a name for himself in Florida high school football circles. As a sophomore, he recorded 41 tackles, six interceptions, three pass breakups, and a sack, showcasing his versatility and ball-hawking abilities. His performance on the field has earned him a four-star rating and the No. 209 spot nationally in the On3 Industry Ranking for the 2027 class. Additionally, he is ranked as the No. 20 safety and the No. 23 prospect in Florida. ​
The Recruitment Journey
FSU extended an offer to Williams in late January 2025. Since then, he has made two unofficial visits to Tallahassee, with the most recent during the Seminoles’ Legacy Weekend. Williams becomes the second commitment for FSU’s 2027 class, joining fellow defensive back Jaylen Scott from Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. Scott committed to the Seminoles in early January, and together, they represent a strong foundation for FSU’s future secondary.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and participating in track and field’s 400 meters, Williams possesses the range and athleticism desired in a safety.
