Steelers’ Ramon Foster Endorsed An Emerging Guru As Pittsburgh’s Next Offensive Coordinator

The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively searching for a new offensive coordinator, and former player Ramon Foster has suggested an intriguing candidate: Thomas Brown. Brown served as the interim offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers during the 2023 season and played a role in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory in 2022.

Foster, co-host of The Ramon Foster Show, highlighted Brown’s ability to call plays at both the college and NFL levels. He emphasized Brown’s experience with the Rams and his recent stint with the Panthers, acknowledging the challenges faced by the latter team during the 2023 season.

Notably, Brown has been a subject of interest for the Tennessee Titans in their offensive coordinator search. Foster, closely connected with the Titans, mentioned that Brown had undergone a second interview with Tennessee, indicating the team’s strong impression of him.

Thomas Brown’s coaching journey includes roles as a running backs coach at various universities, such as the University of Miami, the University of Georgia, and the University of South Carolina. His NFL playing experience as a running back, drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2008, adds depth to his overall football background.

The Steelers, traditionally favoring homegrown talent in coaching roles, are seeking a fresh approach to hiring offensive coordinators. The recent offensive coordinators, Randy Fichtner and Matt Canada, were promoted from within the organization but faced challenges in rejuvenating the offense. The desire for innovation and a more dynamic, modern approach has led to speculation about external hires.

Zac Robinson, the pass game coordinator for the Rams, is also in the Steelers’ consideration, emphasizing the team’s interest in candidates with experience in successful, high-scoring offenses. However, Foster believes that Brown is an underrated candidate who deserves more attention, especially considering the Titans’ strong interest in him. If the Steelers want to secure Brown, Foster suggests they act swiftly in their pursuit.
