Liverpool Urged to Secure the Services of 24-Year-Old Brentford Talent as the Ideal Replacement for Mohamed Salah, Hinting It’s Not Ivan Toney

Tony Cascarino believes that Liverpool should have their eyes on Brentford’s star, Bryan Mbeumo, as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian forward depart Anfield. Speculation has swirled around Salah’s future at Liverpool, particularly after a substantial offer from Saudi Pro League champions, Al-Ittihad, managed by former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, in the run-up to the transfer window deadline in August. Despite the lucrative offer, Liverpool firmly stated that Salah was not for sale. Salah has continued to deliver consistently for Liverpool, reaffirming his vital role in the team. Nevertheless, the club has been considering alternatives in case he does leave.

In recent seasons, Liverpool’s recruitment efforts have bolstered their attacking options, with the additions of players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo. However, Salah has remained a mainstay in the front line, underscoring his significance.

Tony Cascarino stated in his column for The Times, “If Mohamed Salah ever leaves Liverpool, the club should go and buy Bryan Mbeumo as his replacement. At only 24, his best years are ahead of him, and he possesses all the attributes to succeed at a club of Liverpool’s stature: he is versatile, durable, and launches counterattacks with real ferocity. He has improved his goal-scoring record, with nine Premier League goals last season and six in just ten appearances this year, including a tap-in to an empty net that sealed Brentford’s 2-0 win against Chelsea.”

Bryan Mbeumo, at 24, has spent four years with Brentford since joining from Troyes in 2019. He was part of the Bees team that earned promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and has scored 47 goals in 185 appearances for Brentford. The Cameroon international demonstrated his ability when he found the net against Liverpool when the two teams clashed in January, resulting in a 3-1 win for Brentford, which was a challenging night for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
