Still not over the Warriors’ break-up with Klay Thompson? Then, you’re not alone. Stephen Curry is also going through this grieving phase. And what’s better than reliving the fond old memories to cope with the loss? That’s exactly what Steph did, giving his fans a throwback.
Curry and Thompson’s unmatched dual act earned them the name “Splash Brothers”. While the name’s origin was due to the splashing sound of the net after a 3, the Bay Area connection also made a lot of inadvertent sense to it. But they did not keep their splashing limited to only the West Coast. Steph’s throwback included memories from 2014 when the Warriors stars went out for some jet ski action in the Mediterranean Sea.
Curry shared a post from Jim Ice’s collection to his IG story. The post showed a collage of pictures of Curry, Thompson, and 6’10” Suns center Mason Plumlee riding the waves in Barcelona. Steph even added some laughing emojis and wrote, “The jetskis will forever be a story”. The photo also included DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond, and former Nuggets star Kenneth Faried.
This offseason we could’ve seen the duo uniting again, spending their vacation together. But Steph’s Team USA commitments and involvement in several humanitarian projects limited his vacation time. The Curry family finished a small timeout from their regular lives after Steph returned from Paris. But now with the preseason camps approaching, the fans can only see a Splash Brothers reunion on the court once the season tips off. Despite their distance and allegiance to different franchises, Curry wishes nothing but success for Klay as he makes his feelings clear about Thompson’s exit.
Stephen Curry believes Klay Thompson made a decision that was best for him
After 13 years together in the Bay Area, Klay’s exit might come as shocking, but the writing was on the wall. Even before this offseason, Thompson’s discontent about his contract situation was far from a front-office secret. He was even viewed as an “Exhausting” person to deal with recently. And when things reached an irreconcilable stage, Thompson made a decision that suited him the best. At least that is what Curry believes.
During an interview with Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, Curry said, “I wish it would’ve turned out differently. I wish we could have rode into the sunset, all three of us [Draymond Green included] as Warriors for our whole career. [He] made a decision that he felt was best for himself.” The 36-year-old further added how he won’t be holding any resentment towards Thompson for leaving and will always celebrate the things they’ve achieved together.
The next season will be a challenge for Stephen Curry. He will be tasked with leading a group of veterans while Thompson will only bolster the Mavericks roster. Given the state of the two Western Conference rivals, Thomson’s chance of winning the 5th ring looks much brighter than Curry’s, which could ultimately prove that Klay really made a decision that benefits him the most.
