Always a champion”- Lindsey Vonn extends her support to Coco Gauff after latter’s loss to Emma Navarro at the US Open…full story…

Lindsey Vonn has shared her support for Coco Gauff after the 20-year-old failed to defend her US Open title this year. Gauff’s quest to win the title again ended on September 1.

In the fourth round of the 2024 US Open, Gauff was bested by compatriot Emma Navarro 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 20-year-old was the defending champion, having won last year’s final against Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.Following Gauff’s loss, alpine skiing legend Vonn extended her support for Gauff on X (formerly Twitter). She replied to a post on the US Open’s official X page that said:

“Another great run in New York, Coco! See you soon,(handwave emoji)”

Vonn wrote:

“Always a champion @CocoGauff

Following the loss, Gauff opened up about the match in an interview and said, it’s all about the “perspective.” She said: (as quoted by livemint)

“I feel like there’s 70 other players in the draw that would love to have the summer that I had, even though it’s the least, probably, I’ve done well during this time of the year. So many people want to be in the fourth round. So many people want to make the Olympics. So many people want to be flag bearer. It’s perspective.”

This is not the first time Vonn has cheered on Gauff. She was there to witness the latter’s performance during the Madrid Open 2024 as well.

When Lindsey Vonn lauded Coco Gauff for her Vogue magazine cover

In March this year, Coco Gauff was featured on Vogue magazine’s cover. She posed in multiple looks for the photoshoot and shared the pictures on X, thanking the magazine for the opportunity.

“Thank you @voguemagazine for this amazing cover, It’s truly an honor and I am forever grateful for this opportunity.”

A day after Gauff posted her pictures, Lindsey Vonn took to her X and complimented her. She wrote:

“Well deserved and crushed it!!

Vonn and Gauff also met each other at TIME magazine’s 2024 Women of the Year Awards on March 5. They posed together, and Vonn later shared their picture on her Instagram page. Along with Gauff, she met other women from various fields, in whose company Vonn said she felt “stronger and more inspired.”The caption said,

“Wow!! What a night celebrating the most badass women in the world!! Sports, science, activism, art and music, all represented and used as a conduit for women to make change. I feel stronger and more inspired just being in the same room with them. Thank you @time @jessicasibley for honoring these power women.”
