Lindsey Vonn led an incredible career as a skier, and she was recently inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame to honor everything she achieved when she was still competing. After the event, the American took some time to pen a heartfelt note on what this milestone meant to her.
Vonn had an early start to her skiing career, taking to the slopes when she was just two years old. She quickly rose through the ranks, winning multiple events at the junior level before successfully transitioning to the senior circuit.Lindsey Vonn won her first World Cup overall championship in 2008 and followed this up with wins in 2009, 2010, and 2012. Overall, the skier won 82 World Cup races in her career and also claimed a record eight World Cup season titles in the downhill discipline, five titles in super-G (2009–2012, 2015), and three consecutive titles in the combined.
The American is a 20-time World Cup Crystal Globe title, a record for men and women. She is also an Olympic gold medalist in the downhill and a 2-time World Champion.Celebrating this legendary career, Vonn was recently inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame. Taking to Instagram after the event, she penned a note on what the accomplishment meant to her, as she wrote:
“It was an honor to be inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame over the weekend. I was surrounded by people I grew up with, was coached by, taught by, and looked up to. Colorado has always welcomed me as one of their own and it means so much to receive this honor in front of so many people I care about. Thank you @coloradosnowsportsmuseum @sscvail”
Lindsey Vonn showers praise on Mikaela Shiffrin in Hall of Fame speech
Lindsey Vonn was the one to beat when she was still competing, and after her retirement, she passed on that mantle to Mikaela Shiffrin.Shiffrin is without a doubt one of the best skiers to have ever taken to the slopes. Her record-breaking career as of March 2024, has seen her win 97 World Cup races, the most among men and women. She has also claimed five-time Overall World Cup titles, 7 World Championships titles, and two Olympic gold medals.
Acknowledging Mikaela Shiffrin and her incredible performances, Lindsey Vonn said in her speech during her induction into the Hall of Fame,
“No matter what I’ve done, or what we’ve done, what’s even more important is that Colorado has incredibly inspiring people leading it forward, one of them being Mikaela Shiffrin. Mikaela has won an insane amount of World Cups and she’s far from being done. It gives me great pride to know the next generation is reaching even higher than I was able to.”
Vonn has often been an outspoken supporter of Shiffrin and was one of the first to congratulate her when the 29-year-old broke Vonn’s record in World Cup race victories.
