Breaking; Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany expecting a multi-way battle between the Bundesliga’s… details>>>

Last season, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side set a first for being the only team in Bundesliga history to avoid defeat over the course of the season. That will be hard to repeat, and Die Werkself finally lost at Leipzig, but Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is aware of the threat posed by the other clubs.

“In terms of what Leverkusen achieved last year, I can relate to what they’ve experienced with some of the successes I would have had as well as a player and as a coach in the season we had in the Championship,” the Belgian said (via Bundesliga’s website). “What I’m trying to say with this is that I think it would be completely naive for us to assume that they cannot repeat it. I think we have to prepare ourselves for another 90-plus point season from the competition. So, that means that there are 20 points somewhere that we have to find next season to be champions. I think it would also be a little bit disrespectful for us to assume that they’re not going to do it again. I think our benchmark has to be that we have to be above that.”

Despite Leverkusen’s historic season, Bayern still hold the record for most points in a single league season (91 in 2012/13). The Bundesliga’s size allows a maximum points record of 102, but it’s unlikely that any club will ever go the whole season winning every single game.
