The Seattle Seahawks suffered a tough but forgivable loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 4, falling short in a competitive game that exposed several areas of concern. While the defeat wasn’t disastrous, there are a few key players who share responsibility for the outcome. These three Seahawks made crucial mistakes that played a role in the team’s inability to come away with a win.
1.Geno Smith – Quarterback
Despite showing flashes of brilliance, Geno Smith struggled with consistency, particularly when it mattered most. His decision-making under pressure was shaky at times, leading to crucial errors, including an untimely interception in the fourth quarter that shifted momentum back to the Lions. Smith has been solid in previous weeks, but against a hungry Detroit defense, his inability to take care of the football in key moments was costly. Though his overall performance wasn’t terrible, those mistakes were hard to overlook in such a close game.
2.Damien Lewis – Offensive Guard
The Seahawks’ offensive line faced a formidable challenge in the Lions’ defensive front, and left guard Damien Lewis was one of the weak links. Lewis struggled in both pass protection and run blocking, allowing pressure up the middle and contributing to Smith’s difficulties in the pocket. The Seahawks were unable to establish a strong running game, and much of that can be attributed to breakdowns on the interior line, where Lewis had a tough time containing Detroit’s interior rushers.
3. Michael Jackson – Cornerback
Seattle’s secondary had its hands full with Detroit’s dynamic receiving corps, and cornerback Michael Jackson had a particularly rough outing. Jackson was targeted frequently by Lions quarterback Jared Goff, and he gave up several key receptions, including a deep pass that set up a critical Detroit touchdown. His inability to contain Detroit’s receivers contributed to the Seahawks’ struggles in the secondary and allowed the Lions to exploit mismatches down the field.
While the loss to the Lions in Week 4 was certainly frustrating, it’s not one that derails Seattle’s season. However, these players will need to clean up their performances in future games if the Seahawks hope to remain competitive in a tough NFC race.
