James Scott, a 6-foot-11 forward from Fayetteville, North Carolina, announced his commitment to the University of Louisville men’s basketball program in March 2024. He expressed gratitude to his faith, family, and Coach Pat Kelsey for believing in him and providing this opportunity.
Scott transferred to Louisville after a promising freshman season at the College of Charleston under Coach Kelsey. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 5.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in just 16.1 minutes per outing, earning a spot on the Coastal Athletic Association All-Rookie Team. Notably, he made 76 of 96 field goal attempts (79.2%), with 52 of his 76 made shots being dunks, placing him in the top 25 nationally for total dunks despite limited minutes.
Coach Kelsey praised Scott, stating, “James Scott reminds me of a young Marcus Camby. He’s earned a reputation as one of the premier lob-threats in the NCAA. On the defensive end, he’s extremely versatile and can guard every position.”
Scott’s commitment to Louisville reunites him with Coach Kelsey and teammate Reyne Smith, who also transferred from Charleston. His addition is anticipated to significantly bolster the Cardinals’ roster for the 2024-25 season.
