The Ohio State University community is mourning the loss of former offensive lineman Ben Christman, who passed away at the age of 21. Christman, an Akron, Ohio native, died peacefully in his sleep on February 11, 2025, from natural causes, as stated in his obituary.
Christman began his collegiate football career with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2021. After redshirting his freshman year, he saw limited action during the 2022 season. In pursuit of more playing time, he transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he faced a significant setback due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season. Demonstrating resilience, Christman returned to participate in all 12 games on special teams in 2024. Following his tenure at Kentucky, he transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in January 2025, aiming to make a substantial impact on the Rebels’ offensive line.
UNLV head coach Dan Mullen expressed profound sorrow over Christman’s untimely passing, highlighting the positive influence he had on the team in a short period. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program,” Mullen stated. “Ben was an easy choice for our leadership committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration, and friendship of all his teammates.”
Ohio State Football also conveyed their condolences, stating, “The members of the Ohio State football program are saddened to learn of the passing of Ben Christman, a member of our team in 2021 and 2022. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who knew Ben well.”
Christman’s journey through collegiate football was marked by perseverance and dedication.
