The Dallas Mavericks are gearing up for a new season with a clear and ambitious focus as they have only one thing left to achieve after reaching the NBA Finals last year: the ring. During the media day, Luka Doncic made it clear by describing what the team will be aiming for with just one word: “Championship.”
With the addition of Klay Thompson, a player with four championship rings in his career with the Golden State Warriors, the Mavs seek to take a step forward in their quest for the title. Kyrie Irving highlighted the importance of Klay’s experience in the fight for the coveted ring:
“I feel like our dreams can come true because he’s here now. He has added great value to our championship aspirations.”
Irving also emphasized Thompson’s need as a three-point shooting threat, especially after the team’s low percentage in the past finals. Doncic added, “When Kai and I have the ball, you basically can’t help Klay. Because if you leave him open, he’s going to make it.”
Klay Thompson
Thompson, who chose to wear the number 31 to honor Reggie Miller, commented on the need to adapt to the Mavs’ playing style, which is different from what he had in Golden State. “From a tactical standpoint, I’ll have to adjust to playing with such good creators,” said Thompson. “I think it will take a couple of weeks to get used to this new system, but thankfully opening night isn’t until [October 24]. I’m eager to learn this system.
